FAMILY NEWS: December 2022 / Christmas in Kenya, shopping, & safari

With the start of a new year, I want to start something new and aim to POST a monthly update to our amazing community. I am so grateful for each of you and the various ways you continue to be engaged in Just1— whether through regularly reading our emails, donating, praying, or interacting with us on our socials. Every form of connection and engagement means the world to us and is felt by our small team! Some updates may be shorter than others, but my aim is to keep you updated in a more personal way, as well as share current needs and prayer requests.

Christmas, Shopping, & Safari

For our first recap, I first want to start with sharing about Christmas for our girls in Kenya and a fun day trip they went on! Every year for Christmas, we give each girl an allowance to go shopping and pick out some news clothes. They absolutely love it, because for them, shopping for new clothes is something they have never had the opportunity to do prior to being in our care.

At the beginning of their school break, our Kenya team took them for a fun outing— a safari! They loved seeing all the spectacular animals that call Africa home. In the pictures above, you'll see a zebra, giraffe, and some pictures of the girls! They also went out to eat lunch, which is another special treat for them.

The girls have all been working very hard in school. Due to the lockdowns in Kenya during the pandemic, almost all children in schools on a nationwide scale fell majorly behind in their studies. To make up for this, since 2021 the Kenyan government has mandated children go to school 6 days a week to help them catch up. So for our girls, a break is very much needed and well deserved.

Everything in this email— from their Christmas shopping, to the safari, to their private school education— is only possible because of the generosity of our amazing community. To those who already give and to our monthly donors, thank you. I hope you know the impact you are having on the lives of these girls is not small.

If you are not a monthly partner, I'd like to invite you to join The Family. To help meet the growing needs of our Restorative Program in Kenya, we need 40 new people to partner with us at $50 a month. In The Family, we express our love to those who need it most:

We protect vulnerable populations through our prevention educational programs. Every person we educate is more equipped to protect the children and youth in their life. Every child protected is one child less likely to ever be exploited. Learn more about our educational program here.

We care for children and young women who are at-risk or survivors of exploitation and human trafficking. Our family is committed to providing them with the best care so they can experience freedom and restoration. We want to empower them to heal and flourish into all the can be. Learn more about our restorative care program here.

Be sure to be on the lookout for a very important email update coming next week. I will share about the girls in our care beginning to reunify with their families and what family reunification entails.

For the one,
